( About )The name of the brand was inspired by the Musee de l'Orangerie. An "orangerie" is a greenhouse or conservatory for orange trees, so I thought it was ironic to create a brand called Agent de l'Orangerie since Agent Orange was used to destroy jungles or hiding spots of the Viet Cong. Agent Orange and other "Rainbow Herbicides" continue to have long lasting health effects on Vietnamese people and Vietnam War veterans.

What gets masked when we exoticize?

I created a wordmark and a brand guidelines for this brand. The color palette was drawn from my six fictional fragrances (Orange Blossom, Perfume River, Casualties, Acetone, Incense, and Condensed Milk).

( Poster )I designed a series of advertisement posters with quotes from survivors, historical figures, films, news headlines, and past advertisements. Some posters use hand drawn floral illustrations

( Website )I designed and coded a fake e-commerce site. When you first land on the homepage, you have to click on the spinning wheel to open the "doors" to this Orangerie. There is also a page for users to create custom fragrances based on questions that prompt users to think about their biases on foreignness or the othered.

( 3D Modeling )I used Blender to create 3D models and visualize products for the purpose of world-building—an important aspect of fragrance brands.

( Packaging ) Each package serves as a vessel for content about the politics of different kinds of scents.

( Packaging Inserts ) The packages I designed also contain inserts and paper test strips. The inserts or mini "zines" provide a short description about the fragrance, various diagrams describing the perfume notes, and other content related to scent and Vietnam.

One set of paper strips are shaped like bottles and re found inside the packages. The bottles have questions asking the viewer to consider their biases or other questions related to smell.

( Installation )For my final critique, I created a small makeshift installation with posters and the six perfume packages.
